Events & Initiatives
(i) Youth For Causes (YFC) Project
The Service-Learning Champions are recruited in Secondary Two and will embark on the Youth For Causes project under the mentorship of the Service-Learning teacher mentors as well as their seniors. Under this programme, they will learn to plan and execute self-initiated service-learning projects to raise awareness, funds and organise direct service events for social service agencies of their choice. In Secondary Three, the Service-Learning Champions will apply what they have learnt previously, and lead in their class Youth-For-Causes project.
(ii) Design Thinking Workshop
The Secondary 2 and 3 Service-Learning Champions also undergo design thinking workshops to learn how to apply the design thinking approach in their service-learning projects. We have also invited our NCHS alumni members to share more about the service-learning experiences during their schooling days, and how to manage their time and workload. In addition, one of the segments was organized by the current Secondary 4 Service-Learning Champions, which also taught the service-learning leaders on tips on proposal writing for their service-learning projects. After the design-thinking workshop, the students embarked on a Service-Learning Journey to Dignity Kitchen, in which they made cookies, packed and distributed food to the elderly.
(iii) Shines-in-Harmony
Shines-in-Harmony is organised annually to provide a platform for students to raise funds and awareness for beneficiaries. The Service-Learning Champions lead in the planning for NChasTalent performance to provide an opportunity to showcase their talent and to express their appreciation and gratitude.
(iv) School Heritage Tour
Together with Bicultural Ambassadors, ALP students, Chinese Calligraphy and Chinese Drama members, Service-Learning Champions organise an Amazing Race to help Secondary 1 cohort in understanding school’s culture and develop a stronger sense of belonging to their new school. SLCs take charge of a station which introduce school’s history to the Secondary 1s.
In addition, the Sec 2 and 3 Service-Learning Champions also organise School Heritage Tour for Primary 6 students from Nan Chiau Primary School at our school’s newly refreshed school heritage gallery. They bring history into life through activities such as Bingo game and re-enactment of some historical scenes.
